A cordial note and letter of recommendation for an unnamed associate, probably Carl Bogenhard. A pencilled note signed "J.H.B." asserts that the translator is Carl Bogenhard. See Bogenhard's letter dated August 6, 1852 in the John Torrey Papers; the handwriting appears to match, and from this letter it would seem the recommendee is Bogenhard himself
